The syllabus includes an introduction to health and safety, the role of the Company and individuals in making a workplace safe, the reporting and preventing of accidents, hazards in the work environment as regards both premises and equipment, fire safety, first aid, personal protective equipment, lifting and handling, substances harmful to health and their control plus accompanying health and safety legislation. All fire safety certificates issued under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 will cease to have an effect. This order applies to all premises and every type of building, structure and open space. The employer, managing agent, occupier and any other person who has control over a part of the premises must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk from fire and make sure people can escape safely if there is a fire. To comply an organisation must conduct a fire risk assessment and ensure appropriate hazards are controlled.
